Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at UMN, TC
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of related office and administrative experience. Training/education may be substituted for some up to one year of experience
  • Knowledge of geospatial science projects

About the Job

Principal Duties, Responsibilities, and Specific Tasks include, but are not limited to:

Office Support (40%)
  • Data entry (Access database, Excel spreadsheets, publications tracking)
  • Word processing
  • Copying and document scanning
  • Document assembly
General office assistance (40%)
  • Manage package delivery and outgoing FedEx shipments
  • Inventory supplies, assist with order placement
  • Document assembly
  • Assist in other duties as assigned
workshop and meeting support (20%)
  • Help assemble presentation materials – assist with handouts, agenda, name badges, etc.
  • Prepare for and provide support hosting local meetings and events
  • Assist in other duties as assigned

Specific skills will be taught on the job.

PGC is on the St. Paul Campus.

About the Department

The Polar Geospatial Center (PGC) lies within the N.H. Winchell School of Earth & Environmental Sciences in the College of Science & Engineering.  The PGC provides geospatial support, mapping, and GIS/remote sensing solutions to researchers and logistics groups in the polar science community.  We collaborate with scientists to complete their research goals in a safe, timely, and efficient manner by providing a service which most groups do not have the resources for or expertise to complete.  Our goal it to introduce new, state-of-the-art techniques from the geospatial field to effectively solve problems in the least mapped places on Earth.
