Claire Porter MPA Award

The PGC is proud of its Minnesota roots and we are pleased to share our own hometown hero, Claire Porter, is the recipient of the local 2019 Alumni Association Award from her high school alma mater, Mounds Park Academy (MPA). The MPA Alumni Association Board of Directors honors alumni of outstanding talent while commiting to community outreach and chose Claire for her leadership work contributing to the never-before possible production of ArcticDEM and REMA.

Claire is not just a hometown hero in the fields of Geographic Information Science and Software Engineering. She has made a big impact worldwide and as one of her nominators commented,

“Claire Porter has turned the topographic world upside down. With her contributions, her work has led to an achievement with far-reaching scientific and real-world applications. I cannot overstate the importance of her fundamental and first-person singular contributions to earth observations.”

She received the award on May 31st at MPA’s 2019 Senior Awards Ceremony, “providing inspiration to the next generation.”
